maternity – beautiful manassas battlefield

Filed Under:

i realize that having a maternity photo session at a battlefield might at first seem a bit, um, interesting.  but the moment i drove up to this location, i was in love.  beautiful hills, historic home – and the SKIES.  love at first sight.
and then the cutest couple walked up and i became even more excited for this session.  they even brought along their first baby.

betsy and jonathan are expecting their baby boy any day now (i have my fingers crossed today is the day- my son gavin celebrated his sixth birthday today!)   i can not wait to meet their little man because these two are naturals at parenting and nurturing.

about mid-way through the session, i asked betsy if she was okay climbing the steep hill behind us.  she kind of smiled and said sure, okay.  i realized she probably thought i was a bit crazy to drag an 8 month pregnant lady to the top of this hill, especially since i was having a hard time catching my own breath.  but the view – i hope she agrees it was worth it.  🙂

this session (along with their newborn session) was a gift from the jonathan’s sister, whom i loved meeting back in march.  i thought it was such a great idea and what a memorable gift for any new mom.  what i love most about photographing soon to be parents is that excitement that fills the air as they are about to embark on the most delicious of adventures that has only just begun.

beautiful day.  beautiful family and the beginning of something truly exciting.  thank you betsy + jonathan for a great afternoon in june – wishing you a beautiful birth day!

So should the photos.

Your wedding feels exactly like, well, you.

I’m Kelly Loss, a documentary wedding photographer in Washington D.C. and northern Virginia. For over 12 years, I’ve been photographing couples who want their wedding day to feel less like a photo shoot and more like a celebration.

By asking thoughtful questions, I’m able to capture the same meaningful moments they would have if they were the ones behind the camera.

Hi there, I'm Kelly!
