So here we go:

(Except for one another, of course.)

Which is why I’m so focused on getting to know the two of you. Not just the “theme” of your wedding or the color palette you have in mind.

But you: where you get takeout when you had a rough day at work, where you went on your first date (and who showed up first), which one of you is more likely to cry at the wedding…

The better I understand you, the better I can capture what matters most to you on your wedding day.

And because it’s a two-way street, I figure you want to know something about me, too.

You'll probably spend more time with me on your wedding day than anyone else.

One, I’ve got a knack for asking the right questions. I’m not just hearing you, I’m listening. And that’s reflected in the pictures I take.

And two: I’m a pro at smoothing ruffled feathers and managing family dynamics—if it ever comes down to that.

Which means two things…

When I'm not a photographer I'm actually a therapist.

When I became a wedding photographer, I decided to do things differently.

As a former planner, I also have an innate sense of how the day needs to flow—and the ability to slip into a guest’s point of view. That’s one of the things my couples love most—reliving their day from multiple perspectives, not just their own.

Years ago, I worked as a wedding planner at a hotel. There, I saw how the “traditional” approach to wedding photography prioritized endless shot lists—not the couple’s experience.

Before I became a wedding photographer, I was a planner.

including my favorite, a French chicken we call Baguette; my dog Mac; and my cat Sawyer.

I have a menagerie that features 9 backyard chickens (currently)…

you might not be surprised to learn that my husband is a veterinarian.

- Emily M.

We found Kelly after chatting with a few other photographers and always ending our conversations feeling very “meh, they’d be fine?”

From our first meeting, Kelly’s priority was getting to know us as a couple and letting us learn more about her as a person… less as a photographer. Her targeted questions and creative ways of translating that to photography are what makes her unique.

“All of the photos she delivered made us look and feel like US.

Let's talk family photos
Let's talk weddings

Let the story of your love
emerge in your photos.

I’m Kelly Loss, a documentary wedding photographer in Washington D.C. and northern Virginia. For over 12 years, I’ve been photographing couples who want their wedding day to feel less like a photo shoot and more like a celebration.

By asking thoughtful questions, I’m able to capture the same meaningful moments they would have if they were the ones behind the camera.

Hi there, I'm Kelly!
