Family photography that runs deeper than "look at the camera"

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA

Because you want more than the standard “I’m taking a photo!” smiles. (After all, you can have your friend take that photo on their iPhone.)

Instead, You’re invested in documenting the little expressions that you might miss when they are older:

The face they make when they’re concentrating. The way they rub their eyes as naptime approaches. Their grin when you reach a favorite page of the story.

As a documentary-style family photographer in Northern Virginia & DC, I work with you to preserve the joy, the spontaneity, and the chaos of everyday life.

How Sessions are Structured

The experience

Honestly, there’s nothing natural about being in front of a camera, especially for kiddos. Instead, we’ll aim for those slice-of-life moments.

Invite me into your house for bedtime stories, cupcake making, or just throwing a football in the backyard. Ask me to join you while you go strawberry picking or take a hike together.

She was my 3-year-old daughter's best friend within five minutes of arriving, and took some of the best family photos we have. A true treasure, a precious memory, and the best possible customer experience.

She makes the entire experience as fun for the babies as it is for the in-laws.

She takes so many gallery-worthy photos. But, you also get the ones that only you understand, where the kids personality shines through.

"I can never pick one (or five) favorite(s)."

Your questions, answered...

What happens if the kids don’t want to have their photos taken that day? +

Luckily, it won’t feel like a photo session. Instead, they’ll feel like they’re hanging out with their friend, doing something they love. (Plus, I’m a mom myself—I’ve seen it all, and I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve.)

What should we wear? +

There’s only one rule—wear what feels like YOU. Photos where you’re wearing clothing you never wear otherwise might make for a great holiday card, but they won’t have that lived-in feeling.

What if we’re not sure where we want to do sessions yet? +

You don’t have to know! Let’s chat and figure out what you love to do as a family. Then we’ll take it from there.

Capture this season of life in all its precious detail.

As they say, "the days are long, but the years are short."

I’m Kelly Loss, a documentary wedding photographer in Washington D.C. and northern Virginia. For over 12 years, I’ve been photographing couples who want their wedding day to feel less like a photo shoot and more like a celebration.

By asking thoughtful questions, I’m able to capture the same meaningful moments they would have if they were the ones behind the camera.

Hi there, I'm Kelly!
